Ryan Davis is an independent game developer based in the Midwest, USA. Ryan has been making games since he was 13, when his father gifted him a burned CD with GameMaker and some resource packs. Today, Ryan is a solo developer and artist with a passion for game feel, design, and emergent polish.
Ryan spent his teen years on the Game Maker Community (GMC) making freeware games for other developers. He made many prototypes and some complete games. In his early 20's Ryan began paying the rent with the small games he built in Construct 2 by licensing them to HTML5 game portals around the Internet.Recently
Growing frustrated with the problems of the mobile market, Ryan decided to shift away from mobile and onto desktop and console. He participated in a few Ludum Dare competitions to restart his creativity, fishing for a prototype that would make sense for desktop and console. After months of prototyping and iteration, one Ludum Dare entry seemed mature enough to go beyond the 48 hour competition.Adventure Lamp
Adventure Lamp was the result of Ludum Dare #32, “Unconventional Weapon.” The game started as a “what if you use your hat as a weapon” and quickly turned into much more. It earned a tied 17th Overall in the competition and a warm response from players. Since then, it has grown in both scale and depth, but at its core remains a “pure” platformer, with small levels and simple mechanics. These were intentionally left as they were to highlight the interactions the clumsy hat brings to a platforming environment.
